Thursday Tips: Stay Focused

Thursday Tips: Stay Focused

It’s an everyday, real-life struggle to actually stay focused. The world is buzzing around you and there’s no hiding in a closet at your work place. We want you to stay on track so you can perform better, be less frustrated, and have clear, structured goals.

Great performance management can only come from great time management.

Get your focus underway with these four time hacks—then get back to work!

  1. Figure out your priorities. Obviously everything is priority, but which one matters the most today, right now, in the moment? Strike up a short list, talk with you manager if needed, and give yourself a time to have each task/project completed.
  2. Draft your small and big goals. It’s time to take a few minutes and create a goals plan with some hard dates to have them underway. Putting a little pressure on yourself will get you started on the right path and help you stay focused on the end product.
  3. Stop multitasking—it isn’t helping you. Not everyone can rock answering the phone, emailing, texting, reading, drafting, creative thinking, and scheduling at the same time—it’s okay. Take on one task at a time to make sure it gets your full attention.
  4. Don’t let others steal your attention. Your time is valuable, and you’ve got enough on your plate without people constantly interrupting. It’s okay to let them know that an email would be better for you to respond to during such a busy time. Ask them to set up blocks of time with you for special meetings so you can stay in control of your schedule.

Not every day will be this intense—but giving yourself a little structure earlier on in the week will help you complete your goals, stay focused, and maybe even get to the bottom of your list.
